Jerry Doyle ran for public office in California, and did not win. But this is OK, because he established a beachhead on Earth. Now he's a talk radio host.
Doyle's decision to run was a last-minute one. The Republican party originally wanted Doobie Brothers guitarist Jeff "Skunk" Baxter.
Doyle says he is a "centrist," a word I first heard used by Jesse "the Governor" Ventura. He's against the "radical right" that he says has dominated the party.
Doyle had no formal agenda, no support from the state's Republican party, and no outside funding. As to why he should be taken seriously, Doyle replied, "I'm the only candidate with his own action figure."
