RevolutionSF Newsblast: Quick opinionated sci-fi news on Thundercats, Indy 4, sheep, Stargate Atlantis, and fanfic. In other words, everything you ever cared about.

Feeling the Magic

Thundercats movie! Take your City of Heroes movie and your Sims movie and cram 'em. This was a 1985 superhero thing that you could play outside. With your so-called friends, who were just jealous and a little afraid of your skill with the nunchuks. I can neither confirm nor deny that I tried to invent a role-playing game based on it.

And for value-added enjoyment, here is live-action Thundercats.

My story is the only one on the entire Interweb to not use any variation of the word "ho."

Ewe'll Be Sorry

I wish I was in New Zealand. Because of this unfortunate lack of geographical standing, I will have to wait until June 22 for the American release of the movie Black Sheep..

Not the Chris Farley and David Spade movie. That came out in America years ago, to our dismay. This one is about sheep. Evil sheep. Special effects are by Weta, the Lord of the Rings people. And the the trailer is awesome.

No Idea of Your Potential

No Sean Connery in Indiana Jones 4. But thank goodness it'll have Shia LaBoeuf!

GAH! Stupid Dice!

Shamus Young writes DM of the Rings, a webcomic that runs through Lord of the Rings as if it were a D&D campaign. One line to watch out for: "Your name is Leggo Lass?" I also like the very truthful and honest look of Monty Python quoting during gaming.

My highest kudos, for it delights me terrifically.

Hitting The Fan

FanLib.com is hosting a round-robin fan fiction writing contest with the somewhat self-explanatory title Kirk vs. Picard. There's a trailer, and George Takei and Wil Wheaton explain the deal here. Winners get real-life prizes, and it's supervised by a real life Trek producer Andre Bormanis, and it starts June 13.

I bet Kirk and Picard start making out about four lines in.

Fresh Prince Am Legend

The last man on Earth in the trailer for I Am Legend is played by the former star of Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. Not Carlton, the other one.

Presumably, he also plays the last guy in the movie, which comes out December 14.

Poor Will Smith. He did comedy albums when he started out, and I never let him forget it. But I'd do the same thing if Weird Al Yankovic became an action movie star. And who's to say he won't?

Fables of Atlantis

So on G4's Attack of the Show, there's a guy who does a rap video about Stargate Atlantis. He rhymes Atlantis with damnedest. And I can't get the song out of my head. Then David Hewlett, who plays Dr. McKay on the show, raps his own rap, and that, too, is amusing. What's up with doing enjoyable things about Stargate Atlantis? What planet is this?

Hear The Dredd

Well, this is just neat. 2000 AD's website hosts audio productions of comic book stories. There are stories with Judge Dredd and Strontium Dog, which stars Simon Pegg from Shaun of the Dead. These are like those Power Records I listened to at a tender age. And they're a couple of quality steps up from the reading of comics into a tape recorder that I also did when I was a younger human.
