Movies of geekity interest should be only two minutes long. This is because trailers are so good. They make us laugh. They make us cry. They work so hard to make us happy.

Trailer Probe rates the geek explosion content, a measure of how much it combusts our cortex with a volley of geekitude. Also measured: Dork disengagement level, the reason you won't like it, for those who don't have a moment to waste on a trailer they may not freak out about.

Star Trek

Reason to watch: Riker without a beard looks 75 years younger. Not included in the trailer. The hot tub scene with the shaving. Sweet Imzadi.

Dork disengagement level: Wait a minute! Is this the right trailer? Has the clever Trailer Probe creator fibbed to me? Hey, wait. Data says something cool!

Geek explosion level: 400,000 geek parts per million.

Star Trek

Reason to watch: The space history sound clips are excellent, as is the intro by one of the top two favorites from original Trek. The money shot is also very nice.

Dork disengagement level: It's just a dude with a welding torch. But he's welding the Enterprise!

Geek explosion level: 800,000 geek parts per million.
