Movie Probe: Portal, Beast, The Garden

Movie Probe finds movies and series for you to watch or Kickstart or Kickstart then watch. You will like them. We command it.

Portal: The Series

Portal is a sci-fi crime drama watchable in 15-minute pieces, exclusively on DailyMotion. That's easily digestible. You could watch while you work, as long as you keep the window minimized. Unless your boss would like it. Or is already watching it. (Hey, it could happen.)

It's about a designer drug that puts the druggee in a virtual world of happiness and bikini-top wearing ladies. At least, I think that's what happens. Most of the show so far is spent in the real world where they talk about the how good the drug is.

A drug dealer gets in over his head, as such folks are known to do. Naturally, bad stuff escalates from there. Each episode ratchets up the tension.

The hero, if you can call him that, is so doomed. I get that feeling. He, within the story, also has that feeling. I don't know how it ends, but I'm along for the ride.

Beauty and the Beast

”This is not a fairy tale.”

There is no enchanted forest like typical movies and cartoons with beauties and beasts. Sadly, there are also no singing candelabras.

It's a desolate frozen tundra. The movie is filmed in Iceland, and all the characters in the trailer look like they really just need some hot chocolate.

The movie is a dark horror version of Beauty and The Beast. The Beast is played by The Mountain from Game of Thrones, who goes by the human name of Thor Bjornsson.

The trailer shows fleeting glimpses of the Beast in action, but it has plenty of ROARS.

Beauty doesn't look anything like a princess in distress. If the Mountain was not reason enough to back this movie, here's another:

You'll see it in the trailer at the link up there in the title.

Beauty has a flaming sword.

I need to see this movie as soon as possible. I don't think I'm ready.

The Garden

”We are a lifeform, better suited to prevail. Forever.” Ballerina vs. robots!

There's a lot more to this short film, but Ballerina vs. Robots is a good place to start.

The Garden is a short sci-fi film about artificial intelligence and how awesome it is. Everyone should want to be put in AI bodies. Nothing bad could possibly happen because of that.

In this future, AI constructs are the rulers and puny humans are integrated into AI bodies. The hero is a ballerina who is about to be integrated.

The film’s look is futuristic and busy. The future is cramped and metallic. It looks like Almost Human with the tone of Orphan Black.

(Check out the RevolutionSF reviews of Almost Humanand Orphan Black.)

I can assume from the trailer that it doesn’t work out and she becomes a robot fightin’ hero. The idea that she breaks her bonds and fights for freedom reminds me of Thundarr the Barbarian. But then, all good things remind me of Thundarr.

I want to see the whole thing. As in, right now.

Check out the trailer at movie's official site and here's the Kickstarter page.
